Aquatic Therapy uses water to promote healing and maximize exercise performance. Water has many properties that make it beneficial in a therapeutic environment. The buoyancy of water decreases the amount of weight on your joints and because the water helps to support your body, it allows for a safer environment to test out your balance. For athletic injuries, this promotes a faster return to activities.
Water's hydrostatic pressure decreases edema in joints and extremities, helps return blood to the heart, and lowers the working heart rate as compared to the rate on land for the same work out intensity. Water's viscosity, or density, is also great for muscles. The resistive property of water is 600 times that of air, so the faster a body part is moved through the water, the stronger it becomes.
Our therapeutic water is kept at a temperature which promotes muscle relaxation, easier joint movement, and increased circulation.
Good candidates for aquatic therapy include those suffering from arthritis, fibromyalgia, sprains/strains, back pain, obesity, respiratory and circulatory problems, as well as those with athletic injuries.
Aquatic therapy is now offered in Cleveland, Gunbarrel, McCallie and Hixson locations.
